There’s nothing more tiresome than arguing with an internally conflicted person and I’m afraid my patience ran out, resulting in the usual dismissive “fuck off!”
This person, with only a basic appreciation of the philosophical underpinnings of logical argument, seems to have decided to go on a spiritual quest for why he believes what he believes. All well and good. Most intelligent people embark on such a journey if not once then several times during a lifetime. The problem is, he’s equipped with dull scissors and his forest of doubt is overgrown with Redwoods.
It doesn’t help, of course, that his rather dull wit and cumbersome mind has decided to stand fast on the sanctity of a few issues. To him, you see, it is beyond doubt that (1) the theory of evolution is wholly true; and that (2) atheists bear no burden of proof for their claims.
I could bear it no longer: people like this—along with this particular person’s poisonous ‘woe is me’ attitude—are fighting a battle against themselves the outcome of which is always loss. I’d rather stay out of the path this particular swarm of demon-infested hogs make careening over the cliff.
“Fuck off!” it is.
