Ever since moving to Idaho, I've had a healthy respect for mountain roads from which one can easily be looking down several thousand feet to nasty little life-taking rocks below. One of the first I ever drove on was the 7% down grade off US 95 off Whitebird Hill in central Idaho. Afterwards, the Kleinschmidt Grade (scroll down) near Cuprum both terrified and delighted me at the same time.
This link has some stupendous examples of what I mean.
I am happy to report however, that these kinds of roads have less of an effect on me nowadays. In fact, I even overtook some on the downhill portion of 95 recently! Cruise control (and downshifting) is your friend.
