Five Days

I'm hooked on Five Days after the first of five in the BBC drama miniseries shown on HBO. It is suspenseful so far and the acting is good. Thankfully, it's not your run-of-the-mill Brit crime drama in which Inspector So-and-so solves some silly crime in a most English way (read: boring).

A mother vanishes into thin air. Her children, abandoned in her car, also end up missing. As police search for clues over three gut-wrenching months, the woman's husband and family learn that nobody's quite what they seem. In the end, five days prove critical in solving the case.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a Nigerian in the lead role. Well, a Brit of Nigerian descent. David Oyelowo was born in Oxford. He was the first black actor to portray an English monarch for the Royal Shakespeare Company as Henry VI.

Good on him!
